Guiding Principles

We the Board and Staff of the Gallup Arts Habitat (GAH) believe that we must be guided by the following principles:

1. Advocate

We promote arts and humanities as necessary to the well being of our community.

We promote arts and humanities as valuable contributions to the local economy.

We emphasize the importance of members, volunteers and employees in our ability to achieve our mission.

We ensure that we are accessible and responsive to members of the public who express interest in the affairs of GAH.

We ensure that the events reflect the interests of the people we serve through public education and public policy advocacy.

We value the involvement of our board members, members, volunteers in the community.

2. Educate

We include programs that provide individuals of all ages with hands-on arts and humanities experiences.

We educate our community about aspects of what we do including our mission, program activities, and finances.

3. Develop

We actively develop new programs.

We actively evolve existing programs.

We meet in the community when we develop programs.

We consider institutional capacity to manage those programs when we develop them.

4. Assess

We evaluate the efficacy of our current programs.

We continually evaluate the relevance of our existing programs.

We conduct periodic reviews to address regulatory and liability concerns.

We ensure that accurate financial records are kept.

We ensure that our fund-raising programs are maintained on a foundation of truthfulness and responsible stewardship.

We ensure that we act in the best interest of the arts and humanitiess and humanities in the community, rather than in furtherance of personal interests.
