Mission
The Gallup Arts Habitat (GAH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the cultural life of northwestern New Mexico by
- providing quality programs that nurture and inspire a love and understanding of
- the arts,
- culture,
- the humanities
- and languages.
Programs
We annually invest membership and earned funds as well as hours of volunteer time, in support of our mission in our community. Our programs include:

Performance Series
The GAH produces an annual Performance series comprised of eclectic, high quality, professional performances including dance, theatre and music. Each performance is sponsored by a local business.
Local performers produce classical music concerts, traditional acoustic, Native American, and Mexican music, drama, and dance.

Each festival in the series is
sponsored by local businesses and
brings in visitors from outside the community

3. Youth Programs
The Fine Arts Fridays program will enable elementary students in the McKinley County and Reservation schools to interact with professional artists. Local and regional artists present a wide variety of programs for those students.
Creative Journeys will be an after-school and summer program that teaches children print design and production, screen-printing, mask and tile making. Each student keeps one of their pieces, with the others offered for sale at the GPAC Gallery in support of the program.
.c. Youth Mural Project when funded, teams local artists with teens to develop and produce public murals representing local history and themes.
d. Youth Performance Outreach- many of the GAH public evening performers will also perform lecture/demonstrations for school students on the afternoon of their evening performance.
e. In addition, school students will participate in various visual arts exhibits connected with special events.

4. Visual Arts
a. GAH supports artist members for 6-week exhibits and an opening “Meet the Artist” reception at various galleries.
b. Print Project - 25 local artists each produce a print for 50 portfolios. Each artist is given a portfolio. The remaining 25 portfolios are sold through the GAH to whom all proceeds accrue.
c. Workshop and Lecture Series to provide local audiences with opportunities to learn from prominent local and regional artists.
d. GAH promotes the monthly Gallup Arts Crawl, and supports arts activities at the various venues

5. Educational Conferences
GAH promotes various conferences that bring in visitors, including the
Regional Indigenous Bilingual Education Conference
Developing the Whole Child
Navajo and NASA Astronomy Conference
and more.

6. Art and Culture Tours
GAH Art and Culture Tours are a partnership between the GAH,
the Gallup Tourism Department, and the
McKinley County Cultural Enterprises Network.
Destinations may include the area museums and the
Navajo, Zuni and Hopi reservations of northern New Mexico and Arizona;
Ancient Way activities,
and El Moro Area Arts Council

GAH special events are intended to…

to entertain and inform,
and attract visitors from New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and beyond
GAH Supported Events include agencies, schools, cultural enterprises, and venues across a broad region, including:

The Gallup Literary Festival featuring literary works and authors with connections to the Gallup area

GAH Advocacy
GAH gives voice to the concerns of area artists, educators, parents, children and gallery owners through involvement in various committees and groups in McKinley County, the area Pueblos and reservations, and around New Mexico and in Washington, D.C
a. These include local agencies:
McKinley County Cultural Enterprises Network,
New Mexico Centennial Committee,
New Mexico Humanities Council,
Gallup Historical Society,
Plateau Sciences Society,
Gallup Community Concert Association,
b. and external agencies…

New Mexico Grantmakers,

c. The GAH Executive Director and various board members speak at local civic groups and school boards, and provide input to the Gallup Town Hall in developing their legislative agenda.
d. Free performance tickets are provided to long-term care facilities, programs for low-income mothers, mental health programs, homeless and domestic violence shelters, etc, helping to build recognition for the effect of the arts on quality of life.
e. Discounted tickets to all students - elementary through college - helps build audience and makes the arts accessible to area youth.

9. GAH Fund Raisers
GAH conducts fund raising activities to provide a source for projects
a. Brochure Racks. Thirty brochure racks containing space for 42 advertising brochures are placed around Gallup in restaurants and other businesses for maximum exposure. GAH maintains an inventory of client brochures and regularly replenishes the racks.
b. Legacy License Plates. The Legacy License Art Plate is a project of the New Mexico Community Foundation (NMCF) in partnership with National New Deal Preservation Association and the New Mexico Community Arts Network.. Proceeds from the project support local arts councils such as GAH and others involved in art programming for youth as well as the Community Resources Fund - a new NMCF endowment.
c. Albertson’s Community Partners Program.
If we obtain this program, the GAH can earn up to 4% of all purchases that our supporters make at Albertsons through the Community Partners Program.

GAH programs and events will bring a significant number of tourists to town, often filling hotels and motels throughout the County
Since local businesses profit by the flow of tourists and visitors, businesses are anxious to compete for opportunities to sponsor or underwrite our events

Consultation and feedback are essential to the maintenance of an effective organization.
We are proposing an organization to support the arts, education and language in our community.
