WNMU Graduation
Program
Saturday May 10, 10 am to about noon
Come at 9 am for one more rehearsal
Also rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday 6:30 pm
Musicians of the area will perform original works by local composer, Roy E. Howard for the WNMU graduation to be held at the Ken Holloway Theater at Gallup High School. This is also Dr. Howard's last graduation as regular faculty, as his retirement from WNMU is effective this summer. He is going to dedicate his full time efforts to the arts in Gallup.
Our ultimate objective is to generate enthusiasm to start the "Gallup Festival Orchestra". If you can't perform this time, at least send an email and let us know you are interested in playing in an orchestra. All instruments are needed throughout the year.Roy Howard has composed new works specifically for our group. The works in the May 10th program are here
The "New Mexico Territorial Suite" by Dr. Howard, requires 20 players. It quotes Civil War bugle calls and songs of the NM Territorial Period, representing Navajo, Hispanic, Pioneers, Soldiers, wars, boarding schools, Cowboys, etc. Performance time is 10 minutes.
We will also perform "Ignite and Nurture a Spirit of Learning", the WNMU theme song for the School of Education. We will also play a new Processional and Recessional.
Orchestra parts:. Bring a copy of your parts (see below). Click on the pdf, print, and practice. Bring your copy to rehearsals and the performance. Bring your instrument and your music stand. Let the composer know if any changes or corrections are needed for your part to play in the correct register or level of difficulty (with thousands of notes to create and type, there is room for error).
