Jan 12 Concert at The Coffee House at Coal and 2nd Street. Friday night, January 12, will be the Fifth Annual Gallup Songs of Peace & Freedom Concert at the Coffee House, beginning at 7:00 pm.

Performers include local singers and musicians, presenting folk music, gospel, humor, union, and protest songs commemorating the Civil Rights Movement and Peace Movement, in honor of the Martin Luther King Birthday weekend. If you lived during that time, this may be a trip down memory lane, because the songs are stirring and nostalgic, but we are not locked in a time-warp: there is a lot of funny stuff going on today, so the songs ring true. Additionally, some of us have original songs we have written that address contemporary issues.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrations in Gallup date back to the 1970s with small gatherings of the NAACP. In the 1990s the City got involved and the celebration has expanded every year since then.
