El presente y el futuro no deben desarraigarnos
de nuestro pasado porque lo que ahora somos y lo que nos proponemos
ser en el porvenir depende de lo que ya hemos sido. Todas las
tradiciones son dignas de respeto. Muchas de ellas son el producto
de la mezcla del contacto directo con otras culturas; como sucedió
con el mundo indígena y la conquista española, donde
muchas tradiciones fueron desarraigadas, pero otras se mezclaron
con celebraciones indígenas y españolas, produciendo
una nueva tradición que ahora practicamos. Esto sucedió
con las ceremonias de Navidad, que ahora tienen su propio carácter
y no se confunden con las de otros pueblos.
La Navidad, o mejor dicho, todo el ciclo de las fiestas de Navidad,
es para muchos mexicanos, una época de poesía y
música; religiosa, profana, luminosa, decorativa, etc.
The present and future should not distract
us from our past because what we are now and what we propose to
become in the future depends on what we have been. All traditions
are worthy of respect. Many of them are the product of the mixture
that results from direct contact with other cultures; such as
what happened with the indigenous world and the Spanish conquest,
where many traditions were abandoned, but others survived by mixing
the native and Spanish celebrations, producing a new tradition
that we now practice. This happened with the Christmas celebrations,
such that now have their own national character and cannot be
confused with the traditions of other people.
Christmas, or better said, all the cycle of the Christmas festivals,
is for many Mexicans, a time of poetry and music; religious, secular,
shining, decorative etc.

Las tradiciones forman una parte muy importante del patrimonio
cultural de los pueblos. Las tradiciones son la historia de un
pueblo, y la manera de sentir y pensar de una región o
país. No hay que dejar que estas se transformen hasta el
punto de no poderlas reconocer, porque con su pérdida se
va también nuestra identidad histórica y cultural.

The traditions form an important part of the national culture of the people. The traditions are the history of the people, and the manner of feeling and thinking of a region or country. We should not allow these traditions to become unrecognizable, because with their loss, we also lose our historical and cultural identity.
