Diné K'ehjí Sin

Here are thirty-seven songs that teachers can use in their classrooms for enrichment purposes. The songs are both humorous and informational. They include tongue twisters, occupational activities, historical references, rhymes, those with a moral and those for just plain enjoyment. All refer to, and enumerate, as well as relate to, Navajo life, thus giving children familiarity and pride in their heritage. The lessons in the plans are merely suggestions; each teacher will find many areas where these songs can be used.
TABLE OF CONTENTS (to view properly, install TrueDiné font on your computer or select pdf version)  The 1970 recording began as a group effort that resulted in two LP 33 1/3 rpm records. Dollie Yazzie was joined in some songs by Lynda A. Dick. Several songs added traditional singers Shirley Begay and Laura Wallace. Sound effects on the original recording were done by: Martin Hoffman, Harrison Henry, Laura Wallace, Dollie Yazzie, Shirley B., Andy T., Galena D., Joe Y. and Lynda Dick. The 2003 recording is designed and directed by Dollie, joined by Linda Dick Teller, with technical assistance by Dr. Roy E. Howard.

With Dollie’s love of Navajo music, she decided to make another CD, but this one would come from songs from the heart and songs that were sung to her as a child. She had just finished recording her songs before putting it onto a CD, when she had passed away. Her death was unexpected and so we as a family wanted to complete her work in getting the CD finished and out for sale. Dollie was a phenomenal woman with many great talents. She was a leader among her people, a teacher and a great friend to all who knew her. Our dear mother was our inspiration and example. She will be missed abundantly now and forever. This CD is in memory of our dear beloved Mother, Grandmother, Wife and dear friend.
